Merle socks (baby)
Merle socks (baby)
This pattern is available in German and English.
These socks are worked in the round from the top down with a French heel. The shaft and the instep are worked with our Merle lace pattern. The heel, sole and toe are knitted in stockinette st.
Since the number of stitches must be divisible by 8 in all sizes, we use either needle size 2.5 or 3.0 mm (US 1.5 or 2.5) depending on the size - this way we get different leg circumferences with the same number of stitches and the pattern fits.
4-ply sock yarn with a gauge of 30 sts / 10 cm (4”).
In this pattern, we used Schachenmayr Merino Yak (400 m/100 g - 438 yds/3.5 oz).

You will need:
DPNs size 2.5 or 3 mm / US size 1.5 or 2.5
Needle size and yardage
Size (Shoe size EU | US) Needle size Yardage

6-12 months (18-19 | 2.5-4) 3 mm (US 2.5) 25 g | 100 m (0.9 oz | 109 yds)
1-2 years (20-21 | 4.5-5.5) 2.5 mm (US 1.5) 40 g | 160 m (1.4 oz | 175 yds)
2-4 years (22-26 | 6-9.5) 3 mm (US 2.5) 50 g | 200 m (1.8 oz | 219 yds)

6-8 years (32-34 | 1-3) 3 mm (US 2.5) 60 g | 240 m (2.1 oz | 263 yds)
8-10 years (35-37 | 3.5-5.5) 2.5 mm (US 1.5) 70 g | 280 m (2.5 oz | 306 yds)
The yardage is an estimate.
Circumference around the leg and foot
3-6 months: 10 cm (3.9“)
6-12 months: 11 cm (4.3“)
1-2 years: 13 cm (5.1“)
2-4 years: 14 cm (5.5“)
4-6 years: 16 cm (6.3“)
6-8 years: 17 cm (6.7“)
8-10 years: 18 cm (7.1“)
The lace pattern is very stretchy. The circumference is therefore a bit smaller than usual.
30 sts = 10 cm (4”) with needle size 3 mm (US 2.5)
32 sts = 10 cm (4”) with needle size 2.5 (US 1.5)
While you can use basically any 4-ply sock yarn for this pattern, we recommend using a solid or only lightly speckled colour, so as not to overwhelm the lace pattern.
In the smallest sizes, for babies that cannot walk yet, fine merino wool is also suitable. We recommend Cool Wool Baby from Lana Grossa or Sandnes Lanett Babyull.

How do I download a pattern to an iPhone/iPad?
We've noticed that some Apple users are having trouble downloading their guides to their iPhone or iPad. Here are some tips that should help you out.
After completing the payment, an email will be sent to the email address you registered when ordering.
Here is an example of that email. You must click on the link provided to download the purchased pattern.
Please note that you will not receive emails from us if your email address contains a typo. If so, contact us via email or Facebook so we can fix the spelling mistake and resend the emails.
After clicking the link in the email, this page will open in a web browser. First click on "Download Now" and then in the second step on the small blue arrow next to the address bar in your browser (see arrow).
Then a list of the most recently downloaded documents should open as shown in the picture:
You have now opened the document for the first time.
Of course, you don't want to open the manual just once, you want to be able to access it again and again. You don't have to use the link in the email to do this as the instructions are saved on your device once downloaded.
Locate the folder called "Files" on your device. There you will find all the documents you have downloaded, including our knitting patterns.
We hope this short guide will help you find the files.
